ADA (American with Disabilities Act) guidelines regulate the construction of accessible bathrooms. Handicap toilets must have a minimum width of 60 and sufficient space to accommodate the wheelchair to the sides of the toilet or in front of it. Figure (a) is a plan view of an adult wall hung water closet. The minimum distance between the toilet and a finished wall on either side is 15 inches. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulates building codes in public and commercial areas to allow greater access by handicapped individuals.
