Hey all, I am wanting to make cigar boxes for my groomsmen and i was wondering if there was a solid DIY design. I made this humidor with a variant of those plans. This is my first attempt at making a cigar box guitar. In last Sunday’s Austin American-Statesman, there was an article (can’t find it on the site so no link) about 2 guys who make and sell cigar box guitars under the name Bobby Taylor Guitars. I’m going to try and make a couple cigar boxes as Christmas presents but I’m not familar with them.

This poster features a reprint of classic cigar box banjo (guitar) plans, which originally ran in the St. Joseph Herald newspaper in Michigan in 1886. These plans, which seem to be based on the classic Uncle Enos banjo plans by Daniel Carter Beard, are a classic example of early homemade instrument plans featuring cigar boxes as the body. Looking around the internet I can find plans and kits to build cigar box guitars and ukuleles but not mandolins. There are youtube videos of people playing cigar box mandolins and a few people sell them but I’m not finding instructions on how to build one.
