I have a bunch of raised garden bed frames, and I’m considering putting them on a slab of concrete that I have in my back yard. I wanted to avoid putting them on the grass, as when I’ve done this. My question: Can I build a planter box directly over the concrete? And if so, how deep would it need to be to be successful? I’d rather not remove the slab; who knows, someday we may be back to ordering groceries from WebVan and toasting the new economy in the ‘tub. So we built two raised bed boxes directly on top of the patio. As shallow as my beds are, I grow a variety of flowers, melon, lettuce and arugala, beans, squash, cucumbers, and would be comfortable planting most any garden vegetable in the beds.
