A gas cabinet is a metallic enclosure which is used to provide local exhaust ventilation system for virtually all of the gases used or generated in the Semiconductor, Solar, MEMS, NANO, Solar PV, Manufacturing and other advanced technologies. It is required that a gas cabinet is used in order to offer safety from fire to cylinders. The requirements vary by state however, many states have no advanced and refined regulations for hazardous industrial gasses since there is little or no industry that uses such gasses in that state. Gas Cylinder Cabinets. Proper ventilation and exhausting of hazardous gases is important for personnel safety, and is required by most fire and building codes. Scott offers Specialty Gas Cabinets to encourage the safe storage and use of specialty gas cylinders. The cabinets, which can safely store 1-4 standard size gas cylinders, are constructed of 11-gauge steel to exceed code requirements. Additional safety features include a large vent exhaust, louvered door panel to provide positive air flow, and an integral sprinkler that is activated in the event of fire.

Gas cabinets for the storage of compressed medical gases in amounts exceeding the permit amounts for compressed gases in the International Fire Code shall be connected to an exhaust system. The dilemma lab designers face is that flammable storage cabinets are tested unvented, and special attention is required to provide venting that does not compromise safety. Again, if the cylinders are stored in gas cabinets, that volume doubles. Materials with higher fire ratings, additional ventilation requirements and strict implementation of separation distances are required when MAQs are greater than 250, 400 and 3500 ft3.
