Tucked away at the back of Bubbledogs through a discrete entrance, is the 19 seat Kitchen Table. Awarded a Michelin star in 2014, Kitchen Table is a dining experience, encouraging full interaction with the chefs and showcasing previously unseen kitchen theatre. Kitchen Table is however a whole different thing than the also excellent Bubbledogs. After falling in love with the hot dogs and champagne at Bubbledogs, we made an effort with my friend to make reservations at Kitchen Table, the fine dining part of the restaurant. This is a review about the ‘Kitchen Table’ at Buddledogs, which just happens to be located at the back of Bubbledogs. You need to book it well in advance and it can only seat 19 people. It is virtually a long counter table around a kitchen and very good it is too.

The kitchen table is the fine dining counterpart to the bar, where chef James Knappet serves a no-choice tasting menu in two evening sittings. The creation of chef James Knappett and his wife Sandia Chang, Bubbledogs possibly owes something to Crif Dogs in New York. Kitchen Table, at the back behind black leather noise-muffling curtains, is a not dissimilar set-up to Brooklyn Fare in the eponymous borough. Shhh please don’t tell anyone, pleads a fan of Kitchen Table although this amazing little venue hidden behind a curtain at the back of fabulous, fun-loving Bubbledogs is probably one of the worst-kept foodie secrets in town. An exhilarating experience where you are literally say around the heart of kitchen for the ultimate in a chef’s table. Bubbledogs is the front restaurant, serving hot dogs and champagne, that allows James Knappett and his wife to also offer the Kitchen Table, which is behind the main restaurant. They offer 2 seatings for a total of 20 people, with the earlier grouping starting desserts as we started savories.
